ABU DHABI, July 18, 2026 — The UAE Public Prosecution has expanded its investigation into the publication and circulation of false information claiming that explosions were heard in central Dubai.

Attorney-General Counsellor Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi said the Public Prosecution is continuing its inquiry into the report, which contained inaccurate information alleging explosions in the city.

As part of the investigation, prosecutors have recorded the statement of the reporter involved and summoned those responsible for preparing, approving and publishing the report at the news agency. The investigation will examine each individual’s role, the editorial procedures followed, and whether legal and professional standards for verifying information were properly observed before publication.

The findings will be used to determine legal responsibility and decide on any necessary legal action.

Dr. Al Shamsi also stressed that the news agency’s decision to withdraw the report and issue a public apology does not halt the investigation. He said the Public Prosecution will continue its work to establish accountability and take any measures required under UAE law based on the outcome of the inquiry.
