PESHAWAR, Pakistan: At least three police officers were killed and 20 others injured in two separate militant attacks in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday, according to local authorities.
The first attack took place in the Upper Dir district, where militants ambushed a security convoy. Police official Ibrahim Khan said the assault killed three police officers and injured 15 others.
Several hours later, a suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden vehicle into a police station in the city of Bannu. The explosion wounded at least five police officers and caused significant damage to part of the station, police officials confirmed.
No fatalities were immediately reported from the Bannu attack.
The twin assaults underscore the ongoing security challenges facing Pakistan’s northwestern region, where militant activity has increased in recent months.
