DUBAI – The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has announced the return of its “Our Flexible Summer” initiative for 2026, offering government employees shorter workweeks and flexible working arrangements during the summer period.

The programme will run from June 29 to September 10, 2026, and introduces two work models aimed at enhancing employee wellbeing while maintaining government service standards.

Under the first model, employees will work seven hours per day from Monday to Thursday and four-and-a-half hours on Friday. The second model allows employees to work eight hours per day from Monday to Thursday, with Fridays off.

Government entities will also have the option of implementing remote work arrangements where operational requirements permit.

DGHR Director General Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi said the initiative has demonstrated that employee wellbeing and quality of life contribute positively to institutional performance and long-term sustainability.

He noted that the programme supports the development of more flexible and people-centred work environments, helping to improve employee experience while strengthening the readiness of government entities for future challenges.

Al Falasi added that the initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to placing people at the centre of development and investing in talent to boost productivity, innovation and sustainable performance.

The summer work programme also aligns with the objectives of the UAE’s Year of Family, promoting a healthy balance between professional, family and social responsibilities while ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality government services.
