WASHINGTON, June 15, 2026 — US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement with Iran has been completed, paving the way for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate lifting of the US naval blockade.
In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all.”
He added, “I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade.”
The announcement marks a major development in regional tensions surrounding the Gulf shipping route, a critical artery for global energy supplies.
Neither the White House nor Iranian officials immediately released details of the agreement, including its terms, implementation timeline, or security arrangements for maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US naval blockade had been imposed amid heightened tensions in the region, disrupting commercial shipping and raising concerns in global oil markets.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the world’s most strategically important waterways, through which a significant share of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas exports pass each day.
Markets and regional governments are expected to closely monitor follow-up announcements from Washington and Tehran for clarification on enforcement mechanisms and guarantees for safe passage through the strait.
