KUWAIT CITY – Tensions across the Gulf region intensified on Wednesday after Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting Kuwait and Bahrain, prompting swift military retaliation from the United States.
Kuwaiti authorities confirmed that strikes on a terminal at Kuwait International Airport resulted in the death of one person and left dozens injured. Officials reported significant material damage to airport infrastructure following the attack.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the operation, describing it as a retaliatory response and warning that the strikes should serve as a “lesson” to the United States and its regional allies.
In response, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had carried out what it described as “self-defence” strikes against military targets on Iran’s Qeshm Island. The US military also stated that it successfully intercepted and destroyed multiple Iranian missiles and drones aimed at regional targets.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump dismissed reports suggesting that diplomatic efforts to end the conflict had stalled. Speaking to reporters, Trump insisted that communication channels remain open, saying, “Conversations between us have been going on continuously.”
The latest developments mark a dangerous escalation in the Gulf crisis, raising concerns about broader regional instability as military exchanges between Iran and the United States continue to intensify.
