The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation has launched “Dubai Archive,” a major national initiative aimed at preserving the emirate’s institutional memory through an advanced artificial intelligence-powered document management system.

Announced during a press conference at the Foundation’s headquarters in Al Jaddaf, the initiative seeks to unify the management, storage, and retrieval of government records, cultural heritage documents, and institutional knowledge across Dubai’s public sector.

The project forms part of Dubai’s wider digital transformation strategy and supports the emirate’s vision for stronger governance, open data accessibility, and long-term knowledge sustainability.

Chairman of the Foundation, Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, described the initiative as a major step forward in protecting Dubai’s historical and administrative legacy. He said documents are not merely administrative records, but important reflections of decisions and milestones that collectively shape the nation’s memory and identity.

During the pilot phase, the Foundation signed cooperation agreements with six key government institutions, including Dubai Municipality, Digital Dubai Authority, Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, Dubai Government Human Resources Department, and Mohammed Bin Rashid Library.

A separate agreement was also signed with ONE ECM, the technical partner responsible for developing and operating the project’s digital archiving infrastructure.

Dubai Archive will introduce unified archiving policies and a specialised government reference framework based on international best practices. The AI-driven system is expected to improve document retrieval efficiency, strengthen information security, and protect records from damage or loss.

Beyond improving government operations, officials say the initiative will position Dubai as a global leader in institutional knowledge management while also providing valuable resources for academic research and evidence-based policymaking.
