ABU DHABI, — In response to ongoing regional developments and travel disruptions, Etihad Rail, under the direct supervision of the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi, operated exceptional passenger services between Al Ghuwaifat Station in Al Dhafra and Al Faya Station in Abu Dhabi.
The operation facilitated the safe and efficient transport of more than 350 passengers, ahead of the official launch of Etihad Rail’s passenger services. The move followed the temporary suspension of certain flight operations due to the evolving regional situation.
The coordinated effort was carried out in cooperation with competent authorities in the Saudi Arabia, ensuring procedural integration and swift implementation in line with the highest standards of safety and operational discipline. Authorities described the initiative as part of a structured national response framework designed to address emerging challenges.
The services were delivered through a carefully managed mechanism, including the immediate activation of approved safety protocols and emergency plans to guarantee secure and seamless operations. Technical and human resources were mobilised without disrupting freight services, which continued according to schedule and official directives across the national railway network.
Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi, said the step underscores the UAE’s ability to respond rapidly to regional developments. He highlighted the strategic importance of the national railway network and its operational readiness under varying conditions.
“The operation of the passenger service prior to its official launch demonstrates a high degree of institutional flexibility,” Al Nuaimi said, noting that available capabilities were effectively redeployed to meet immediate societal priorities without compromising long-term plans or logistical security.
Eng. Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, said the initiative reflects the technical and operational preparedness of the network and the competence of the national workforce. He confirmed that additional services have been scheduled and will continue as required, in close coordination with relevant authorities, until air traffic returns to normal operations.
The exceptional operation reinforces Abu Dhabi’s proactive and integrated response model, demonstrating the UAE’s capacity to maintain stability, ensure continuity of essential services, and strengthen confidence in the resilience of national infrastructure during times of regional uncertainty.
