ABU DHABI:  Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, has welcomed the Comprehensive Peace Plan for Sudan announced by US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos.

The initiative is structured around five key pillars: an immediate humanitarian truce, sustained humanitarian access and civilian protection, a permanent ceasefire, a political transition to a civilian-led government, and post-war reconstruction.

Sheikh Shakhboot praised the leadership of US President Donald Trump in efforts to prevent Sudan from descending further into extremism, fragmentation, and an escalating humanitarian crisis.

He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting regional and international efforts aimed at securing an immediate ceasefire and an unconditional humanitarian truce. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring urgent, rapid, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access across Sudan.

According to Sheikh Shakhboot, these measures are critical to laying the groundwork for a transitional process independent of warring factions and extremist groups, including those affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. He stressed that any political path forward must reflect the aspirations of the Sudanese people for an independent, civilian-led government.

The Minister also reiterated the UAE’s determination to work closely with the Quad, noting that an immediate ceasefire would reinforce efforts to achieve a sustainable civilian political solution that prioritizes the interests of the Sudanese people.

Additionally, Sheikh Shakhboot expressed appreciation to the United States for convening the humanitarian conference and Quad meeting held in Washington on 3 February. He described these engagements as vital steps in maintaining momentum amid the prolonged civil war and its severe humanitarian impact.

During the conference, the UAE pledged an additional US$500 million in humanitarian assistance to address urgent needs in Sudan and ensure civilians affected by the conflict receive life-saving support.
