Nigeria’s African Footballer of the Year 2024, Ademola Lookman, has completed a move from Atalanta to Atlético Madrid, ending months of speculation over his future.
The 28-year-old forward accepted Atlético’s offer after turning down a lucrative proposal from Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahçe, bringing to a close an unsettled 18-month period at the Bergamo-based club.
Lookman had pushed for a transfer to a European heavyweight, with Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal previously linked, but neither move materialised. Atlético Madrid ultimately secured his signature.
In a statement, the Spanish club confirmed Lookman has arrived in Madrid, where he is set to undergo a medical and finalise his contract.
His switch makes him the fourth Nigerian international currently playing in La Liga, joining Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke and Sadiq Umar, and marks a major new chapter in the Super Eagles star’s career
