Dubai: Emirates passengers will face new restrictions on the use of power banks starting October 1, 2025, as the airline tightens safety rules on board.

The carrier announced that while travelers will still be permitted to bring a single rechargeable battery pack in their cabin baggage, they will no longer be allowed to use or charge these devices during flights. The move follows a safety review highlighting potential fire risks posed by damaged or overcharged power banks.

According to Emirates’ travel update, passengers must comply with the following requirements:

Limit: One power bank per passenger, up to 100 watt-hours (Wh).

In-flight use: Prohibited. Power banks cannot be used to charge devices during the journey.

Capacity display: All devices must show the capacity rating.

Storage: Only under the seat or in the seat pocket; overhead bins are not allowed.

Checked baggage: Power banks remain strictly banned.

The airline emphasized that the measures are aimed at enhancing passenger safety. Lithium-ion battery packs, if damaged, can overheat and release toxic gases, or in extreme cases, catch fire.

Meanwhile, Etihad Airways has also issued a clarification on its policy for Bluetooth speakers, confirming that they can be carried in both cabin and checked baggage under specific conditions.

With the new rules taking effect this week, passengers are urged to review baggage guidelines carefully before traveling to avoid disruptions at the airport.
