Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has rolled out a comprehensive traffic safety plan ahead of the 2025–2026 academic year, introducing new initiatives to protect students and ease school zone congestion.
The programme includes traffic improvements around schools and a series of awareness campaigns targeting students, parents, and drivers. Among the key initiatives are the “Golden Rules for Generations’ Safety” for middle school students, “Hello, My School” for younger children, and the “Virtual Driving Licence” for high schoolers.
Educational gifts featuring QR codes with digital safety tips will be distributed, while parents will receive guidance on safe practices during school drop-offs and pick-ups. The plan also expands electronic signboards near schools to monitor speeds and encourage seatbelt use.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said the initiatives aim to maintain Dubai’s record of zero school-related traffic fatalities since 2010, despite the city’s growing student population, which is expected to reach 400,000 this year.
The Authority has urged all parents and drivers to comply with safety rules, use designated areas for drop-offs, and remain vigilant around school zones to ensure a safe start to the academic year.
