Chasing 206, skipper Waseem scored a stunning 82 off 42 balls with nine fours and five sixes as the right-hander shared a fantastic 107-run opening partnership with Muhammad Zohaib
Captain Muhammad Waseem led from the front with a sparkling half-century as UAE stunned Bangladesh, a Test-playing team, with a thrilling two-wicket win in the second match of the T20 series at the historic Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday.
Having lost the first match by 27 runs on Saturday, the UAE were under pressure after Bangladesh made 205 for five, thanks to Tanzid Hasan’s 59, Litton Das’s 40 and Towhid Hridoy 45.
In reply, Pakistan-born Waseem scored a stunning 82 off 42 balls with nine fours and five sixes as the right-hander shared a fantastic 107-run opening partnership with Muhammad Zohaib (38).
The UAE suffered a batting collapse after Waseem was dismissed in the 15th over with the team still needing 58 runs off 31 balls.
But Dhruv Parashar (11 off 7 balls) and Haider Ali (15 not out off 6 balls) played a big role in the lower order to drag the team over the line with just one ball to spare for a famous win.
The third and final match of the series will be played on Wednesday at the same venue.
