The UAE has introduced a 180-day multiple-entry permit allowing expats to apply for the Blue Residency visa — a 10-year residency offered to individuals with exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) announced that eligible applicants outside the UAE can now apply for this special entry permit to complete procedures for the long-term visa. The Blue Residency is the country’s first long-term visa dedicated to environmental achievements, and follows similar programmes such as the Golden and Green residencies.
Applicants must fall into one of the following categories:
Climate influencers with a proven positive impact
Scientists and researchers approved by the UAE Council of Scientists
Entrepreneurs and investors in environmental sectors
Inventors, innovators, and environmental experts in public or private institutions
The application process is available through the ICP’s official website and UAEICP mobile app. It consists of five steps and takes approximately seven minutes. Applicants must submit:
A passport valid for at least six months
A personal photo
Proof of eligibility
Payment of applicable fees
Once documents are verified, the permit is issued within one working day.
The move follows the first phase of the Blue Residency programme, announced at the World Government Summit in February, where 20 sustainability leaders were awarded the visa. The initiative reinforces the UAE’s long-term vision to become a hub for climate innovation and environmental leadership.
