Sharjah 24 – AFP: Fulham secured their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals after defeating Manchester United 4-3 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
Fulham’s victory over Manchester United
In the match at Old Trafford, Fulham took the lead with a goal from Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey in the second minute of stoppage time in the first half. Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes equalized in the 71st minute, and after a goalless extra time, the match went to penalties. Fulham’s goalkeeper Bernd Leno played a key role, saving penalties from Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkse, securing the win for Fulham.
Brighton’s triumph over Newcastle
In the second match at St. James’ Park, Brighton overcame Newcastle 2-1 after extra time. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak scored early with a penalty, but Yankuba Meneth equalized for Brighton just before halftime. Danny Welbeck scored the winner in the 114th minute, sending Brighton through.
