Dubai Unveils Prototype of Aerial Taxi at the Museum of the Future
Dubai’s Museum of the Future has unveiled a cutting-edge prototype of the aerial taxi developed by Joby Aviation, in collaboration with the city’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Displayed on the museum’s Tomorrow, Today floor, the aerial taxi embodies Dubai’s vision for sustainable, smart transportation, aligning with the Dubai Self-Driving Strategy, which aims for 25% self-driving trips by 2030.
This innovative project underscores the city’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and supporting global sustainability goals. Khaled Al Awadhi, Director of Transportation Systems at RTA, emphasized the significance of the initiative, calling it a key step toward transforming urban mobility. Dubai is set to become the first city to launch the aerial taxi service, scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The Joby S4 aerial taxi features vertical take-off and landing capabilities, making it an eco-friendly alternative to traditional transportation. Powered by electricity, it produces zero emissions, ensuring a quiet and sustainable ride. With a capacity for four passengers and a pilot, it can travel up to 161 kilometers at a speed of 322 km/h.
Initial routes will connect major Dubai destinations, including Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, and Palm Jumeirah. A journey from the airport to Palm Jumeirah will take just 12 minutes, a significant reduction from the 45-minute car ride.
The aerial taxi service will be integrated with existing public transportation, enhancing the city’s connectivity. A state-of-the-art vertiport, capable of handling 42,000 annual landings and 170,000 passengers, will support the service.
Joby Aviation, in partnership with RTA and Skyports Infrastructure, aims to launch this revolutionary transportation system in 2026, reshaping the future of urban mobility in Dubai.
