29th Dubai World Cup: The World’s Best Horses to Compete at Meydan
The 29th Dubai World Cup, set for Saturday, April 5, promises to be an unforgettable day of racing, with some of the world’s finest equine talents vying for glory at Meydan Racecourse.
The $12 million G1 Dubai World Cup, sponsored by Emirates Airline, leads a nine-race card, with 173 horses nominated, including 20 Group or Grade 1 winners.
Among the high-profile contenders is Hong Kong’s highest-earning horse, Romantic Warrior, along with Rebel’s Romance, Sierra Leone, and Forever Young. The race also sees the return of last year’s winners, Laurel River and Ushba Tesoro. Japanese nominees include Danon Decile, the Japanese Derby winner, and Forever Young, the UAE Derby champion and Kentucky Derby third.
Top horses from the United States are also in contention, with Mystik Dan and Mindframe leading the charge, alongside Mixto, a winner of the G1 Pacific Classic. White Abarrio and Sierra Leone round out the American nominations.
In the $6 million Longines Dubai Sheema Classic, 109 horses are nominated, with standout entries from Japan, including Cervinia, and Liberty Island. Defending champion Rebel’s Romance is set to race for Godolphin. Meanwhile, the G1 Dubai Turf features 167 horses, with notable names like Brede Weg and Soul Rush.
The Dubai World Cup meeting will also feature the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen and Al Quoz Sprint, as well as three Group 2s and the G1 Dubai Kahayla Classic for Purebred Arabians.
Sheikh Rashed bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Racing Club, expressed his pride in the nominations, highlighting the global appeal of the event.
