UAE Ranks Fifth Globally in Quality Infrastructure for Sustainable Development Index
The UAE has achieved a significant milestone, ranking fifth in the 2024 Quality Infrastructure for Sustainable Development (QI4SD) Index.
This marks a leap of six places since the index was launched by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in June 2022.
The QI4SD Index evaluates the readiness of national Quality Infrastructure (QI) systems to support sustainable development goals. The UAE, classified within the ‘L’ group alongside countries like Switzerland, Singapore, and Finland, stands out for its rapid progress, reflecting the visionary leadership of the nation and the strategic efforts of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT).
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, highlighted the pivotal role of QI in driving industrial growth and economic diversification.
“The UAE’s latest ranking demonstrates our leadership’s vision to create sustainable supply chains and bolster economic diversification,”
he said.
Key initiatives include the establishment of the National Committee for Quality Infrastructure and the implementation of over 27,000 standards and regulations to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Furthermore, the UAE’s active participation in international bodies, such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), underscores its commitment to global standards.
Omar Al Suwaidi, MoIAT Undersecretary, emphasized the role of QI in fostering innovation and competitiveness, while Dr. Farah Al Zarooni, Assistant Undersecretary for Standards and Regulations, pointed to recent achievements, such as securing leadership roles in key global quality organizations.
The UAE’s dedication to robust QI systems continues to enhance its global competitiveness, attract investments, and support sustainable industrial growth.
