UAE Adopts ASHRAE Standards to Improve Indoor Air Quality in Infrastructure Projects
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has announced the adoption of the latest technical specifications from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to improve indoor air quality across the UAE’s infrastructure projects.

This update, aligning with global best practices, introduces advanced standards for controlling airborne infectious agents and enhancing air quality in enclosed spaces. MoEI emphasized that the initiative underscores the UAE’s commitment to public health and environmental quality.

The new standards will play a key role in ensuring government buildings are safe and resilient to airborne pollutants. This includes updated guidelines for reducing the transmission of infectious air and improving ventilation systems, which are crucial for health and safety in today’s climate.

MoEI recently completed the Daba Fujairah Court and Prosecution project, the first pilot in the nation to implement ASHRAE Standards 241 and 62.1-2022. The project has already shown promising results, with a 35% reduction in energy use for mechanical ventilation systems and significantly improved indoor air quality.

The ministry has reaffirmed its intention to implement these standards across all new and existing government buildings, positioning the UAE at the forefront of public health and sustainable infrastructure development. By adopting internationally recognized protocols, the UAE continues to prioritize the health and well-being of its citizens.
