In a significant advancement for timekeeping, the UAE has officially launched a caesium atomic reference clock, establishing a highly precise standard for measuring time.

Renowned for their accuracy, caesium atomic clocks measure time based on the vibrations of caesium atoms, ensuring the UAE’s timekeeping is consistent and reliable across various sectors.

The UAE Official Time is viewed as a cutting-edge model, with its frequency rooted in the invariant properties of caesium atoms. This groundbreaking initiative is essential for applications such as telecommunications, navigation, and scientific research. By leveraging this standard, the Emirates Metrology Institute (EMI) enhances the accuracy of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) within the country, contributing to International Atomic Time (TAI).

As part of its ongoing commitment to improving time accuracy, EMI provides time synchronization services to strategic customers and high-frequency calibration services. It also maintains the only time standard in the UAE linked to UTC, safeguarding against potential interference from satellite systems.

Saeed Al Mheiri, Executive Director of EMI, stated,

“The launch of the UAE Official Time represents a strategic step towards enhancing the accuracy of time measurements in the country. Our commitment to developing precise standards supports various sectors, contributing to the UAE’s position as a leading center for quality and conformity worldwide.”
He added that this initiative will also bolster the UAE’s goals of innovation and progress.

The investment in modern time measurement technologies underscores the UAE’s dedication to achieving the highest quality standards while fostering collaboration with international partners in this critical field.
