When is the next public holiday in the UAE? Here’s what’s left in 2025

Residents across the UAE are back at work following the Eid Al Adha break, which lasted from Thursday to Sunday. While the long weekend is over, three official public holidays remain in the 2025 calendar, according to the UAE Cabinet resolution.

Dubai: Most residents across the UAE are now returning to work after enjoying a four-day break for Eid Al Adha. With that holiday now behind us, many are looking ahead and asking – When is the next public holiday in the UAE?

While there are no public holidays in the immediate future, there are still three official public holidays remaining in 2025, according to UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, issued in May. The resolution confirms 12 public holidays each year for both the public and private sectors.

Remaining UAE public holidays in 2025
The dates listed below are provisional, with the UAE government announcing official confirmation closer to each occasion:

Islamic New Year – Thursday, 26 June (one day holiday)
A one-day holiday will be given on the first day of Muharram to mark the Islamic New Year.

Prophet Muhammad’s [PBUH] Birthday – Friday, 5 September (one day holiday)
The Prophet’s birthday falls on the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal. The exact date will be confirmed following the announcement by the moon-sighting committee.

UAE National Day – Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-3 December (two-day holiday)
The year will end with a mid-week holiday to celebrate UAE National Day on 2 and 3 December.

UAE public holiday rules
As per Article No. 2 of the Cabinet resolution, official holidays except for Eid holidays, may be moved to the beginning or end of the week by Cabinet decision.

Article No. 3 states that if a public holiday falls on a weekend or coincides with another public holiday, it will not be carried forward.

In addition, Article No. 4 allows local governments to approve other official holidays not listed in the resolution for their departments or institutions on special occasions or for other reasons.
