The UAE Public Prosecution has issued a strong warning to residents, stating that sharing or reposting rumours and unverified information on social media can result in legal prosecution, even if the individual did not originally create the content.

In an official statement released on February 28, authorities stressed that publishing or circulating information from unknown or unreliable sources can spread confusion and undermine public security and social stability. The warning applies to all digital platforms and technological means, including social media, messaging apps, and other online channels.

Prosecutors urged the public to rely only on official and accredited sources for news and information, and to avoid engaging with content that has not been verified. They emphasized that individuals who repost or share rumours can be held legally accountable under UAE law.

The authority underscored that information sharing carries responsibility, warning that spreading false or unverified information is considered a criminal offence and may lead to prosecution.

The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and increased circulation of unverified claims online, prompting authorities to reinforce laws designed to protect public order and national security.
