The United Nations Security Council has reaffirmed its firm commitment to the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, recognizing their growing influence in promoting regional and global stability.

This position was outlined in a presidential statement issued during a high-level session at UN Headquarters in New York, chaired by Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The Council commended the GCC for its active role in mediation, preventive diplomacy, and its continued support for peacekeeping and humanitarian initiatives.

Council members emphasized the importance of deepening collaboration between the United Nations and the GCC, particularly in areas such as conflict prevention, counter-terrorism, peacemaking, and humanitarian response. They called for more structured engagement through regular dialogue, improved coordination, and enhanced information-sharing mechanisms.

The Council also requested that the United Nations Secretary-General provide actionable recommendations in an upcoming report to further strengthen cooperation between the two bodies.

In addressing evolving global challenges, the statement highlighted the need for joint action on critical issues including maritime security, food security, and water sustainability. It also underscored the importance of increasing the involvement of women and youth in peace and security processes, in line with existing UN resolutions.

Additionally, the Council stressed the growing importance of regional organizations in tackling complex international issues, advocating for stronger partnerships under Chapter VIII of the UN Charter, while reaffirming its central role in maintaining global peace and security.

Briefings during the session were delivered by Khaled Khiari and Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, who provided insights into current cooperation efforts and shared regional challenges.
