The Labour Party has won the majority of seats in the UK by securing the 326 seats required for a majority in the House of Commons – putting an end to 14 years of Conservative rule.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has conceded defeat and said he has called the Labour leader to congratulate him.
Meanwhile, the lection saw a record number of women being elected into parliament
It follows a trend from the past few elections in which the number of women in parliament has increased.
So far, some 242 female MPs have been elected to parliament. The previous record set in 2019 was 220. Before that in 2017, it was 207 and 196 in 2015.
