Dubai- Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on Friday hosted Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo at State House in Entebbe for high-level talks aimed at ending Sudan’s protracted conflict.
The discussions centered on efforts to halt the nearly three-year war between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces, a conflict that has evolved into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
Museveni stressed that lasting peace in Sudan can only be achieved through inclusive dialogue rather than a military solution. He reaffirmed his belief in “African solutions to African problems,” underscoring the need for regional leadership in resolving the crisis.
The Ugandan leader has been appointed by the African Union to head a mediation committee tasked with facilitating direct negotiations between Dagalo and Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Dagalo acknowledged the severe humanitarian and institutional challenges facing Sudan and emphasized the urgency of reaching a peaceful settlement. The meeting marked his first public international appearance since June 2025, when he released a video message addressing RSF fighters in Darfur.
Despite multiple ceasefire attempts, fighting has persisted. On Thursday, al-Burhan rejected a humanitarian truce proposed by the International Quad and the United States, insisting that any agreement would require the RSF to withdraw from cities and military sites it currently controls.
