The Ministry of Education (MoE) has unveiled plans to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) as an official subject in public schools, starting from the 2025-2026 academic year.
This initiative aims to equip students from kindergarten through Grade 12 with essential AI knowledge and skills, positioning the UAE as a global leader in AI education.
The AI curriculum, designed to foster innovation and prepare youth for the future, will cover seven key areas: foundational concepts, data and algorithms, software use, ethics, real-world applications, innovation, and policies. The curriculum will be tailored to each academic level, ensuring students develop a strong understanding of AI and its practical uses in daily life.
Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, highlighted the significance of this initiative, emphasizing that it modernizes teaching tools and supports a generation capable of addressing future challenges with locally relevant solutions.
“This move reflects the UAE’s forward-looking vision and strengthens its global leadership in tech-driven education,”
she said.
The AI program will begin with age-appropriate activities in kindergarten, where students will engage in interactive lessons to explore AI through stories and play. As students advance through the grades, they will tackle more complex topics, including machine learning, ethical AI use, and real-world applications, preparing them for higher education and careers in technology.
The curriculum will be seamlessly integrated into existing schedules without requiring extra teaching hours, and teachers will be provided with comprehensive resources, including lesson plans and activity models.
This groundbreaking initiative is a significant step toward a future-ready education system that supports the UAE’s national vision of a knowledge-based economy.
