AL AIN- The United Arab Emirates recorded its highest temperature of the year on Saturday as the mercury soared to a scorching 49.4°C in Sweihan, Al Ain, signaling the intensifying heat ahead of the peak summer season.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), the temperature was recorded at 12:45pm local time, making Sweihan the hottest location in the country on the day.

The latest reading represents a dramatic rise from temperatures recorded earlier this year. On April 21, the highest temperature nationwide reached 42.9°C in Owtaid, Al Dhafra Region, while on April 15, temperatures peaked at 35°C in Um Azimul, Al Ain.

Meteorologists have warned that the UAE is likely to experience a hotter-than-normal summer, with temperatures expected to continue climbing in the coming weeks.

Speaking earlier this month, weather expert Dr Ahmed Habib of the NCM said that this summer is projected to be warmer than previous years, although day-to-day temperatures will depend on prevailing weather systems across the region.

Authorities continue to urge residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses by staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, and following official weather advisories.

With summer only beginning, Saturday’s extreme temperatures offer an early indication of the challenging weather conditions expected across the UAE in the months ahead.
