The Government of the UAE through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) on Monday announced a new provision for teachers who want to conduct private lessons for students outside educational institutions.
The new announced permits allow qualified professionals to offer private lessons individually or in groups and beneficiaries include registered teachers in both private and public schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.
Dr Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al Mualla, Undersecretary for Academic Affairs of the Ministry of Education, said the new system provides “flexible” options for students and parents, while maintaining discipline, quality, and efficiency in the educational process.

He added that the new system will curb illegal and unregulated practices when recruiting private teachers.
“The introduction of a permit for individuals qualified to provide private lessons will help curb illegal and unregulated practices when recruiting private teachers, which risk affecting the learning process as a whole,” he said.
The new permit is valid for two years and is free of charge, while individuals who will offer private lessons without the permit may face ‘fines and penalties’, MoHRE said.
The new provision does not limit the number of students a tutor can have and allows teachers to work from home countries provided they have a valid residency.
According to the Ministry, it takes one to five working days to get approval and requirements for qualifying vary according to applicants.

Some of the requirements include, a valid UAE residency (passport/Emirates ID), signed declaration, certificate of good conduct, no-objection certificate from the employer, no-objection certificate from the guardian (for students looking to offer private tuitions), experience certificate (if any) and photo with white background.
To apply, eligible applicants may submit their requests through the digital platforms of MoHRE’s website under the ‘Private Teacher Work Permit’ Service tab.
