UAE Education Day was marked across the country on Friday, with authorities reaffirming education as a cornerstone of national development and a key pillar for building human capital and preparing future generations.

Observed annually on February 28, the occasion was designated by Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to honour the country’s education sector. The date commemorates the graduation of the first cohort of teachers from United Arab Emirates University in 1982, attended by the UAE’s Founding Father, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The annual observance highlights the role education has played since the formation of the UAE and pays tribute to teachers and institutions shaping the country’s future.

The Education, Human Development and Community Development Council unveiled the official visual identity for this year’s Education Day, aimed at engaging schools, families, and communities while reflecting the nation’s educational heritage and future ambitions.

Authorities said the sector has recorded major progress since last year, including curriculum modernisation, expanded governance frameworks, and the integration of artificial intelligence in classrooms from kindergarten to Grade 12. Programmes such as “Tomorrow’s Nurseries” and the “Emirati Classroom” initiative have strengthened early childhood education, while project-based learning and developmental screening have enhanced student assessment and support.

New school complexes, national student councils, and sports development programmes have also been introduced, alongside international academic engagement such as hosting the International Chemistry Olympiad.

Teacher recognition initiatives have been expanded, including Dubai’s “Stand Up for the Teacher” programme, which grants long-term residency to outstanding educators. University students are also benefiting from national internship opportunities and skills platforms designed to improve career readiness.

Officials said UAE Education Day reflects the country’s continued focus on strengthening education quality, nurturing talent, and aligning learning with future economic and technological needs.
