The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), has launched the Sustainable Guidelines for Domestic Workers, aiming to instill eco-conscious practices in households across the UAE.
Announced under the Year of Community initiatives, the guidelines promote electricity and water conservation among domestic workers, supporting the UAE’s broader environmental goals, including climate neutrality and sustainable development. This initiative aligns with the National Energy and Water Demand Side Management Programme and the country’s “We the UAE 2031” vision.
The guidelines are designed to be accessible and practical, offering simple behavioural tips that encourage resource efficiency and reduce waste. To ensure wide reach and understanding, the content has been published in eight languages, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to inclusivity and multicultural engagement.
Eng. Fahad Al Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services at MoEI, highlighted the importance of involving domestic workers in the sustainability agenda, noting their vital role in households.
“This initiative is a key step in engaging all members of society in achieving the nation’s sustainability targets,”
he said.
Dalal Al Shehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Labour Protection Sector at MoHRE, emphasized the social significance of the move.
“Domestic workers are a fundamental part of our community. Equipping them with environmental knowledge fosters responsibility and strengthens their contribution to national goals,”
she stated.
Both ministries reaffirmed their commitment to empowering all segments of society in building a more sustainable future, where development and environmental preservation go hand in hand.
