Dubai: Sharjah Police have issued warning to motorists, urging them not to overtake using the road hard shoulder—a traffic violation that endangers lives and delays emergency services. The warning is part of the ongoing “Be Aware, Pass With Care” road safety campaign.
As part of the initiative, Sharjah Police shared a video on their official social media platforms showing vehicles overtaking from the hard shoulder during peak traffic hours.
Under Article 42 of the Federal Traffic Law, such violations are punishable by a fine of Dh1,000 and six black points on the offender’s driving license.
‘Laws apply to everyone’
In one clip, a vehicle is seen overtaking during rush hour. A police officer narrates: “Traffic congestion is part of daily road life, but unfortunately, some drivers choose to skip the line as if laws don’t apply to them.” He stressed that the shoulder is for emergencies only—not a shortcut.
