Dubai, UAE — November 22, 2025:
The final day of the Dubai Airshow 2025 was overshadowed by tragedy when an Indian Air Force Tejas fighter jet crashed during an afternoon aerial display on Friday, November 21, killing the pilot.
The aircraft, part of India’s Tejas fleet participating in the show’s demonstration programme, failed to gain altitude at around 2:13 PM before plummeting into a nearby open area. Emergency responders and firefighting teams arrived within minutes, prompting organisers to temporarily halt all aerial performances.
Despite swift rescue efforts, authorities confirmed at 3:11 PM that the pilot had not survived.
The UAE Ministry of Defence and the Dubai Airshow Organising Committee both issued statements early Saturday expressing condolences to the pilot’s family and the Indian Air Force. The IAF also mourned the loss, announcing that a court of inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash.
The incident sent shockwaves through spectators and nearby communities. Witnesses recounted seeing the jet turn sharply before impact, with some believing the pilot attempted to steer the aircraft away from crowded areas.
Following nearly an hour-long suspension, the aerial programme resumed with modified displays. However, several high-profile acts — including aircraft such as the Rafale, Mirage 2000-9, B-52, and Su-57 — remained grounded, likely due to heightened safety protocols.
The airshow concluded at 5:30 PM, but the final day will be remembered for the tragic loss of life and the sombre atmosphere that settled over one of the world’s premier aviation events.
