Dubai, UAE – On Sunday, the Tanzanian Consular General to the United Arab Emirates in Dubai Omar Hassan Omar met with members of the Tanzanian diaspora living in the UAE at the Iranian club to discuss challenges faced by the Tanzanian Community as well as the economic and social opportunities available both in the Emirates and back home in Tanzania.
More than 350 people attended the conference whose main agenda was to bring together diaspora and to give them the right guidance on the matters and the right ways to invest in and outside the UAE.
In his keynote address, the Consul general reaffirmed the Tanzanian government’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of its citizens abroad. He listened attentively as diaspora members raised concerns on various issues, including employment rights, visa-related challenges, cultural integration, and access to consular services.
“The government recognizes the importance of its diaspora not only as ambassadors of our culture but also as key contributors to national development. We are working closely with UAE authorities to ensure that the rights of Tanzanian workers and residents are respected,” he said.
Diaspora members highlighted difficulties faced by some Tanzanian domestic workers, challenges in obtaining long-term residency, and limited access to legal and professional support. In response, the Ambassador emphasized the embassy’s ongoing engagement with UAE authorities and pledged to enhance outreach and support mechanisms for citizens facing hardship.
Beyond the challenges, the meeting also explored opportunities available in both nations. The Ambassador encouraged Tanzanians in the UAE to consider investing in Tanzania, pointing to government reforms aimed at improving the investment climate. He cited growth sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and real estate as attractive areas for diaspora involvement.
On the UAE side, speakers discussed job and entrepreneurship prospects in the Emirates, especially in areas such as hospitality, logistics, and technology. Tanzanian professionals and business owners shared personal success stories, offering motivation and practical advice to fellow citizens.
The Chairman of the Tanzanian Diaspora Community in the UAE, in his remarks, underscored the importance of unity and communication. “This meeting is a testimony to our shared commitment to improve the lives of Tanzanians abroad while contributing to our country’s development,” he said. He also called for regular engagements between the embassy and the diaspora to ensure that concerns are promptly addressed and opportunities are fully harnessed.
