Spare a thought for women under rubbles on Mother’s Day

While women across the world celebrated Mothers’ Day this month receiving flowers, cards, and warm embraces, it’s crucial to acknowledge that not all mothers met the same tenderness.

In conflict-ridden regions like Gaza and Ukraine, mothers continue to weep under the rubbles with missiles raining from the sky every second day.

This year mother’s say serves as a stark reminder of the hardships and suffering endured by women, who not only grapple with the challenges of motherhood but also confront the brutal realities of war and displacement.

In Gaza, a tiny strip of land plagued by political unrest and violence, mothers face unimaginable struggles on a daily basis. The region, under blockade for over a decade, grapples with severe shortages of basic necessities, including food, water, and electricity.

Amidst this humanitarian crisis, women shoulder the burden of nurturing their families while navigating the perilous landscape of conflict.

The ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict has inflicted immense suffering on Gazan mothers. They live in constant fear for the safety of their children, as airstrikes and military incursions threaten their homes and communities.

The loss of loved ones has become a tragic reality, leaving countless mothers grieving for their sons and daughters who have fallen victim to the violence.

Moreover, the socio-economic impact of the conflict exacerbates the plight of Gazan women. Unemployment rates are staggering, leaving many mothers struggling to provide for their families. The lack of access to adequate healthcare further compounds their challenges, jeopardizing the well-being of both mothers and their children.

In Ukraine, the echoes of war reverberate through the lives of mothers caught in the crossfire of geopolitical tensions. The conflict in Eastern Ukraine has displaced millions of civilians, forcing mothers to flee their homes in search of safety and stability.

Many find themselves living in overcrowded shelters or makeshift camps, grappling with the trauma of displacement while striving to shield their children from harm.

For mothers in conflict-affected areas of Ukraine, every day is a battle for survival. The constant threat of violence looms large, with artillery shelling and armed skirmishes disrupting the fabric of daily life.

Mothers must summon extraordinary resilience as they strive to keep their families safe amidst the chaos of conflict.

Moreover, the psychological toll of war weighs heavily on Ukrainian mothers, many of whom struggle with anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The loss of loved ones, the destruction of homes, and the uncertainty of the future cast a long shadow over their lives, leaving them grappling with profound emotional anguish

On this Mother’s Day, as we honor the women who nurture and sacrifice for their families, let us not forget the mothers in Gaza and Ukraine whose maternal journey is fraught with hardship and heartache.

It is imperative that the international community stands in solidarity with these women, providing humanitarian aid, advocacy, and support to alleviate their suffering and safeguard their rights.

Efforts to promote peace, dialogue, and reconciliation are paramount in resolving the conflicts that ravage Gaza and Ukraine, offering hope for a brighter future where mothers and their children can live free from fear and violence.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day, we at Daily Times call the world to commit to building a world where every mother is valued, cherished, and empowered to nurture her children in safety and dignity.
