Sharjah: In observance of Zayed Humanitarian Day, which honours the humanitarian legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, in partnership with the Sharjah Charity House, organised an initiative to distribute Iftar meals at Asma bint Umays Mosque in the Muwailah Commercial area of Sharjah. The event, held in remembrance of the late leader, extends his legacy of generosity, which positioned the UAE as a global leader in charitable work.
Promoting social solidarity and giving
The initiative reflects the values of social solidarity that Sheikh Zayed instilled in the UAE, emphasising the importance of charitable acts, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan. The aim was to ease the financial strain on low-income families and provide both moral and material support.
Honouring the Founder’s vision
His Excellency Abdullah Khalifa Yaroof Al Sabousi, Head of the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, remarked that Zayed Humanitarian Day serves as a reminder of the founding father, who laid the groundwork for humanitarian and charitable work in the country. Through his actions, Sheikh Zayed instilled a deep love for giving, a value which continues to be upheld by the nation’s leadership. His reach extended across the globe to those in need, and today’s leadership continues his legacy, driving the nation towards greater security, prosperity, and dignity.
Humanitarian work as a core vision
Al Sabousi highlighted that humanitarian and charitable work is a key element of the leadership’s vision, with a value-driven legislative system that fosters solidarity, generosity, and benevolence among both citizens and residents. Rooted in the values of Islam, which emphasises charity and helping those in need, this vision continues to be reflected in various initiatives. He also praised the many humanitarian activities organised by institutions and individuals in remembrance of the late leader. The Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah has been actively organising lessons and lectures across the emirate’s mosques, focusing on the importance of humanitarian work and its role in fostering happiness within society. These initiatives serve to honour the UAE’s achievements in humanitarian work locally and globally while ensuring the continuity of the country’s charitable efforts through sustainable initiatives.
