Sharjah: The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) has announced that private schools in the emirate may set their own schedules during Ramadan, provided the school day does not exceed six hours, according to an official circular.

Schools are permitted to determine their start and end times for both students and teaching staff during the holy month. These adjustments must align with approved academic calendars and curriculum requirements, while maintaining the continuity and quality of education.

SPEA noted that schools should consider differences between educational stages, ensuring flexibility and fairness in organising the school day. The revised schedules should also support students’ academic and psychological well-being.

Additionally, the authority encouraged schools to take into account quality-of-life factors for students, parents, and staff during Ramadan.

Following the circular, several private schools in Sharjah have begun preparing revised timetables, including shorter hours for kindergarten and primary levels, as well as adjusted class periods and activities.
