Sharjah: The Sharjah Islamic Affairs Department has officially opened Al-Shahadatain Mosque in the Al-Qouz area of Wasit suburb. Strategically located along Al-Dhaid Road, the mosque provides a new place of worship that strengthens the emirate’s religious infrastructure. It has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,200 worshippers, including 70 spaces designated for women. The inauguration is part of the department’s Ramadan initiatives, ensuring that new mosques continue to serve the growing needs of the community.
Expansive layout with modern amenities
The mosque has been constructed on a total land area of 3,590 square metres, featuring a spacious prayer hall, ablution areas, washrooms, and an imam’s residence. Designed with sustainability in mind, the mosque integrates advanced energy and water conservation systems that help minimise environmental impact while ensuring maximum efficiency.
A blend of tradition and contemporary elegance
Built through the generous donation of a philanthropist, Al-Shahadatain Mosque harmoniously merges Islamic architectural heritage with modern design elements. Its walls extend at precise angles, while beautifully decorated windows with intricate geometric patterns allow natural light to filter in, creating a peaceful and visually soothing atmosphere. The mosque’s façade features symmetrical columns, lending the structure a distinguished and refined appearance.
Additionally, an external colonnade extends beyond the main building, offering additional space for worshippers. The mosque’s main entrance is designed to be broad and welcoming, leading directly into the prayer hall. The thoughtful inclusion of natural lighting enhances the tranquil ambiance, ensuring a serene worship experience at all times.
Grand dome and towering minaret
The mosque’s dome sits at the centre of the structure, boasting an elegant design that reflects modern Islamic aesthetics. It is adorned with sophisticated geometric engravings and delicate Arabic calligraphy of Quranic verses along its circumference, adding both artistic and spiritual depth. Its smooth, curved surfaces allow for a graceful reflection of light, creating a stunning visual effect, especially at night.
Rising beside the mosque, the 40-metre-high minaret is a striking architectural feature, designed in a sleek rectangular form that blends contemporary style with classic Islamic elements. It is topped with a beautifully adorned structure featuring intricate geometric motifs, adding a sense of grandeur and spiritual significance. Its height ensures that the mosque is easily recognisable from a distance, serving as a guiding landmark for worshippers in the surrounding area.
