Sharjah — In a major step to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow, the Sharjah Police General Command, in coordination with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has announced the implementation of designated lanes for motorcycles, delivery bikes, buses, and heavy vehicles on key roads across the emirate. The new system takes effect on November 1.

According to Sharjah Police, the far-right lane on all major and secondary roads will now be reserved for heavy vehicles and buses. For motorcycles, lane use will depend on the number of lanes available:

On four-lane roads, they may use the third and fourth lanes from the right.

On three-lane roads, motorcycles are permitted to use the middle or right lane.

On two-lane roads, they must use the right lane only.

Authorities confirmed that compliance will be strictly enforced through smart radars, advanced surveillance cameras, and 24-hour patrols to monitor lane discipline and adherence to traffic regulations.

Violators will face penalties under the Federal Traffic Law. As per Article 8, heavy vehicle drivers who fail to follow designated lane rules will incur a Dh 1,500 fine and 12 black points. Under Article 70, disregarding traffic signs or instructions will result in a Dh 500 fine.

Sharjah Police urged all motorists and riders to follow the new traffic arrangements and respect the assigned lanes for each vehicle category. The initiative, they said, aligns with ongoing efforts to promote a culture of road safety, streamline traffic movement, and enhance overall quality of life in the emirate.
