Sharjah Family Affairs Committee unveils 2025 plans

Sharjah 24: The Family Affairs Committee of the Sharjah Consultative Council held a meeting, on Saturday, as part of its activities for the second ordinary session of the 11th legislative term, at the council’s headquarters in Sharjah. The committee addressed various family and community-related issues and reviewed its planned initiatives for 2025.
Collaboration for family welfare
The meeting was chaired by Saeed Matroush bin Hamid Al-Tunaiji, the Committee Chairman, who stressed the importance of collaboration between all relevant entities, both governmental and community-based, to ensure the committee’s goals are met in improving family life in Sharjah. He underlined the role of government departments and entities and expressed the committee’s dedication to listening to diverse opinions and suggestions for enhancing performance in family affairs.

Key attendees
Attendees included Rashid Ghanem Al-Shamsi, the committee’s rapporteur, as well as Abdullah Al-Badawi Al-Hosani, Abdullah bin Ma’dan Al-Ketbi, Abdullah bin Tareesh Al-Kaabi, Mohammed Al-Alawi Al-Zahouri, and Hamid Obaid Al-Hamoudi. Halima Hamid Al-Owais, Vice Chairperson of the Council, and Secretary-General Huda Al-Hammadi also participated, demonstrating the collaborative effort among the members in addressing family and community issues.

This meeting is part of the committee’s ongoing work to advance its role in tackling family-related challenges in Sharjah. It reaffirms the Consultative Council’s commitment to providing comprehensive support for families across various sectors, in line with Sharjah’s vision of creating a unified and sustainable community, as guided by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Plans for strengthening family support
The committee also shared its focus on family support within the Emirate, outlining plans to strengthen family unity, ensure a balance between family members’ rights and duties, and improve family stability for a better quality of life.

Additionally, the committee reviewed the outcomes of its field visits to the Sharjah Social Services Department, where members engaged with officials and interacted with citizens across various branches. These visits provided valuable insights into the needs of families and allowed the committee to gather feedback, ensuring decisions are informed and practical.

The meeting also discussed the committee’s goals for 2025, stressing the need for continued improvements in family services, raising awareness about family issues, and intensifying efforts in key areas such as family counselling, psychological and social support, and training programmes that empower families to face challenges effectively.
