New 600-metre structure boosts capacity by 191%, cuts delays by more than half

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a new 600-metre bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and the link road connecting Arabian Ranches with Dubai Studio City — marking a major milestone in the upgrade of one of Dubai’s most strategic transport corridors.

The bridge, featuring four lanes in each direction, forms part of the wider Al Qudra Road Intersections Development Project. It is designed to significantly enhance traffic flow, increase capacity, and ease congestion for thousands of daily commuters.

Capacity Surge, Waiting Time Slashed

According to the RTA, the new bridge increases road capacity by 191% — from 6,600 vehicles per hour to 19,200 vehicles per hour. Waiting time at the intersection has been reduced by 55%, cutting delays from 113 seconds to just 52 seconds.

The corridor stretches from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, passing through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Emirates Road, and continues along Al Qudra Road — serving several key residential and commercial communities.

Another Bridge Set to Open

The RTA also announced that a second bridge — the northern (left-side) structure — will open on February 15 at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.

This 700-metre bridge will provide two lanes in each direction and will remain operational until completion of works on the southern (right-side) bridge. It will serve traffic heading toward Al Qudra City and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Major Infrastructure Upgrade

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, said the Al Qudra Road Development Project aligns with directives from UAE leadership to strengthen Dubai’s road infrastructure in line with the emirate’s rapid urban growth.

He noted that the project includes:

  • Construction of 2,700 metres of bridges

  • Upgrading and widening roads over 11.6km

  • Reducing journey times by 70%, from 9.4 minutes to 2.8 minutes

  • Serving areas accommodating approximately 400,000 residents and visitors

Al Qudra Road is a key east–west corridor, serving major communities including Arabian Ranches 1 and 2, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Studio City, DAMAC Hills, Mudon, and The Sustainable City.

Upgrading Strategic Intersections

Beyond the newly opened bridge, the project includes:

  • A 700-metre bridge with four lanes in each direction at the intersection with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street

  • A 500-metre bridge serving traffic toward Jebel Ali

  • A 900-metre bridge facilitating traffic toward the city centre and Dubai International Airport

  • Development of 3km of service roads on both sides of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street

Once fully completed, the upgraded intersection will increase capacity from 7,800 vehicles per hour to 19,400 vehicles per hour, while reducing waiting time by 85% — from 393 seconds to just 60 seconds.

Expanding Access to Growing Communities

The project also covers the section of Al Qudra Road from Emirates Road to the roundabout serving Town Square Dubai, Mira Developments, and DAMAC Hills 2.

Works include:

  • Widening a 3.4km stretch within the developers’ zone

  • Constructing a new 4.8km southern road

  • Linking directly to Emirates Road to improve regional connectivity
