RTA Launches Taxi-Sharing Pilot Service Between Dubai and Abu Dhabi
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a six-month pilot for a taxi-sharing service between Ibn Battuta Centre in Dubai and Al Wahda Centre in Abu Dhabi.

This initiative aims to provide a convenient, cost-effective travel option for passengers commuting between the two emirates, with potential plans to expand based on its success.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, explained the route selection process, saying,

“Ibn Battuta Centre and Al Wahda Centre were chosen after a detailed analysis of potential routes. This initiative is designed to reduce travel expenses, especially for frequent travelers between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Both centers are well-connected to public transport networks and parking, enhancing accessibility.”
The cost-saving structure allows passengers to split the fare, significantly reducing costs. When four people share a taxi, each pays only AED 66, saving up to 75% compared to solo rides. The fare per passenger is AED 132 with two passengers and AED 88 with three. Payments are accepted via bank cards and nol cards, making transactions convenient.

Beyond affordability, RTA’s shared taxi service seeks to reduce traffic congestion and promote eco-friendly commuting by lowering carbon emissions. The taxis come equipped with safety features, including cameras linked to RTA’s Operations Control Centre and systems for monitoring driver performance, ensuring a secure and comfortable journey for all passengers.

This pilot service marks a significant step in RTA’s efforts to innovate public transport and cater to the evolving needs of commuters between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
