Dubai’s transport authority has taken a new step onto the global stage. The Roads and Transport Authority has officially joined the International Bus Benchmarking Group, becoming the first public bus operator in the Middle East to enter the international network of leading transport agencies.
The move strengthens Dubai’s ambitions to position itself as a global hub for smart and sustainable mobility. The benchmarking group connects major bus operators worldwide and provides a platform to measure performance, exchange expertise, and adopt best practices in public transport management.
Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at RTA, said the membership marks an important regional milestone that highlights Dubai’s growing reputation in advanced mobility solutions. He noted that the initiative supports the authority’s strategy to align operations with international standards while delivering safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible transport services.
Through the group’s benchmarking framework, RTA will gain access to global performance indicators, comparative analytics across international bus networks, and specialised technical workshops. The platform also enables knowledge exchange among member cities and offers data driven tools to evaluate operational performance.
Participation is expected to improve key areas including fleet utilisation, maintenance efficiency, network reliability, on time performance, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and passenger satisfaction.
The insights gathered will support evidence based decision making as RTA continues expanding its smart mobility ecosystem through digital transformation, intelligent transport systems, and the adoption of cleaner technologies within its bus fleet.
Officials say integrating international benchmarking into operations will strengthen service quality, improve cost efficiency, and reinforce Dubai’s standing as a global reference point for modern public transport systems.
