Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has expanded its Bus-On-Demand service to include Oud Metha and Barsha Heights, addressing rising demand for flexible and efficient transportation solutions.
The expansion aims to enhance daily mobility, ease traffic congestion, and improve public transport connectivity across the emirate.
Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, highlighted the service’s significance, stating:
“The Bus-On-Demand service is seamless, efficient, and a key mass mobility solution in Dubai, a city experiencing rapid population growth. This expansion ensures smoother traffic flow while remaining cost-effective at just AED 5 per trip per person.”
The service, which previously covered areas such as Al Barsha, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Al Nahda, was expanded to Business Bay in early 2023 and Downtown Dubai at the end of 2024. The latest inclusion of Oud Metha and Barsha Heights strengthens the transport network, facilitating seamless movement between adjacent zones.
Operated through an intelligent response system, the service allows passengers to book rides via the Dubai-Bus On-Demand app. Compact 13-seater buses connect designated areas, enhancing first- and last-mile connectivity by linking residential communities to public transport stations.
Before launching the expansion, RTA conducted extensive field studies, considering factors like user demographics, vehicle ownership, proximity to transport hubs, and affordability. The initiative aligns with global best practices from Spain, Germany, the U.S., and Finland.
The Bus-On-Demand app is available for download on the Apple Store and Google Play, offering a convenient, flexible, and tech-driven transport solution for Dubai’s growing commuter base.
