DUBAI-Véron Mosengo-Omba has resigned from his position as General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football, bringing to an end a five-year spell at the helm of African football’s administration.

The Swiss-Congolese administrator, who joined CAF in 2021 after leaving FIFA, announced on Sunday that he would be stepping aside to focus on personal projects. His departure marks the close of a tenure that saw significant administrative restructuring within the continental body.

In the interim, Samson Adamu has been appointed acting General Secretary, according to the Nigerian Football Federation.

Mosengo-Omba’s resignation comes months after legal scrutiny surrounding his name was resolved. In January 2025, Swiss prosecutors dropped investigations into alleged financial misconduct, stating there was no legal basis to pursue the case. Reflecting on this development, he said he leaves the organisation “with peace of mind,” asserting that CAF is now “more prosperous than ever.”

A long-time associate of Gianni Infantino, Mosengo-Omba previously worked with him at both UEFA and FIFA before making the move to CAF.

Meanwhile, CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed that the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will proceed in Morocco as planned. The tournament, originally scheduled for March, was postponed and will now take place from July 25 to August 16.

Mosengo-Omba’s exit signals another leadership transition within CAF, as the organisation continues to navigate governance reforms and competition scheduling on the African football calendar.
