Israel cuts off Gaza electricity supply ahead of truce talks

Israeli negotiators are due in Doha today, as mediators from Egypt, Qatar and the United States try to revive the Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal.
Hamas condemns Israel’s decision to cut off Gaza’s electricity supply – a move that threatens the enclave’s only desalination plant – accusing it of “cheap and unacceptable blackmail”.
US President Donald Trump’s envoy says direct talks with Hamas on the release of Israeli captives have been “very helpful”, and that “something could come together on Gaza within weeks”.
Gaza’s Health Ministry has confirmed 48,453 Palestinian deaths in Israel’s war on Gaza, with 111,860 people wounded. The Government Media Office updated its death toll to at least 61,709, saying thousands of Palestinians missing under the rubble are presumed dead. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks and more than 200 were taken captive
