Iran has warned that it will completely shut down the Strait of Hormuz and retaliate against key energy and water infrastructure across the region if the United States targets its power plants.
This comes amid a sharp escalation in the conflict. Israeli forces have destroyed the Qasimiyah Bridge in southern Lebanon, an act Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described as a possible “prelude to a ground invasion.”
Meanwhile, US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran are ongoing, while Israel continues to intercept incoming Iranian missiles. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to “destroy Iran” following attacks that left more than 180 people injured in cities including Arad and Dimona.
In Iraq, air raids have also struck the headquarters of the Iran-aligned Popular Mobilisation Forces in Baghdad. These strikes follow reported attacks on a US diplomat and a logistics facility at Baghdad’s main airport.
