If you’re a Dubai resident who has sponsored a relative or friend on a visit visa, you’ve likely noticed a refundable security deposit included in the visa application fee. Once the visitor leaves the UAE or changes their visa status, you can claim that amount back—provided you apply within the official deadline.

Here’s a complete guide on when and how to get your visit visa security deposit refund in Dubai.

When Can You Request the Refund?

You can apply for the refund only after the visitor has exited the UAE or updated their visa status.
Applications must be submitted within 30 days of the passenger’s departure.

For Dubai-issued visit visas, refunds are processed by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFAD).

Refund Amount and Associated Fees

According to GDRFAD, the following charges apply:

Refundable security deposit: AED 1,000

Service fee: AED 20

Collection and reimbursement fee: AED 40

Required Documents

To process your refund, prepare the following:

Proof of exit — either:

A passport exit stamp, or

A travel report from GDRFAD (available on the GDRFAD website or Dubai Now app).

Copy of the visitor’s passport and visit visa

Original security deposit payment receipt

Note: In many cases, the system automatically updates the visitor’s exit, so you may not need to submit manual proof.

How to Apply Online for the Refund

Visit www.gdrfad.gov.ae

Click Log In and sign in with your UAE Pass.

Navigate to ‘Existing Applications and Dependents’.

Enter the application or transaction number and visa validity dates.

Locate the relevant visit visa and click ‘Refund’.

Review the details and select ‘Process Refund’.

After submission, you’ll receive a tracking number to monitor your request. Refunds are typically credited to your bank account within two working days.
