RIYADH, 12 March 2026 – The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has welcomed the UN Security Council’s resolution condemning Iran’s missile and drone strikes targeting GCC countries and Jordan.
Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, GCC Secretary-General, described the resolution—co-sponsored by 136 UN member states—as a historic display of global consensus against Iran’s violation of international law. He emphasized that the resolution affirms the right of GCC states and Jordan to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, protecting their sovereignty, security, and stability.
The Security Council also reaffirmed support for the territorial integrity of all Gulf states and Jordan, highlighted the region’s critical role in global peace and economic stability, and underscored the importance of safe navigation for ships in non-hostile waters.
Albudaiwi praised the diplomatic efforts of GCC states and Jordan in mobilizing international support for the resolution’s adoption.
