MoU with Pony.ai marks a major step in Dubai’s Smart Self-Driving Transport strategy
Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pony.ai, a global leader in autonomous driving technology, to initiate pilot trials of self-driving vehicles in the emirate.
The trials are set to begin later this year, laying the groundwork for a fully driverless commercial service targeted for launch in 2026.

The collaboration marks a major step in Dubai’s Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to convert 25% of all trips in the city to autonomous journeys by 2030.

Autonomous vehicles
Pony.ai recently unveiled its seventh-generation autonomous vehicle, co-developed with major automakers including Toyota, GAC, and BAIC. These vehicles feature state-of-the-art AI systems and an integrated suite of sensors—lidars, radars, and high-resolution cameras—to navigate complex road conditions safely and accurately.
The company has also partnered with leading technology platforms such as Tencent and Alibaba to embed its robotaxi services into everyday apps like WeChat and Alipay, further streamlining mobility experiences for users.
The MoU was formally signed in the presence of Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, and Dr. Leo Wang, Chief Financial Officer of Pony.ai.
Signing on behalf of RTA was Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency, while Ann Shi, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, represented Pony.ai. Senior officials from both sides also attended the ceremony.
