Initiative encourages courteous behaviour for safer, smoother public transport journeys
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Keolis-MHI, has launched a new Safety and Public Transport Etiquette Campaign across the Dubai Metro and Tram networks. The initiative is aimed at enhancing passenger safety, easing congestion and promoting respectful behaviour among commuters.
The campaign forms part of RTA’s broader commitment to keeping Dubai’s public transport system among the most efficient and advanced in the world. By focusing on passenger conduct and orderly movement within stations and trains, the authority hopes to improve the overall travel experience for all users.
Encouraging simple commuter practices
Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Operations at RTA’s Rail Agency, said the campaign promotes basic yet important practices such as using the correct carriage, offering priority seating to people of determination and senior citizens, and keeping train doors and walkways clear.
He stressed that respecting fellow passengers’ rights and privacy is central to the initiative. “Dubai Metro and Tram are recognised globally, and every journey should reflect the highest standards of safety, comfort and mutual respect,” Al Mutawa said.
Improving safety and passenger flow
The campaign also seeks to minimise risks, improve passenger movement and reduce delays caused by congestion. By encouraging better travel habits, RTA aims to create a safer and more efficient environment inside stations and trains.
Awareness messages are being delivered through multiple channels, including station signage, in-train guidance materials, digital screens and social media platforms, ensuring the campaign reaches all segments of the community.
Frontline staff support
Station staff, Customer Happiness teams, ticket inspectors and operational personnel will play a key role in reinforcing the campaign’s messages. Through daily interaction with passengers, frontline employees will provide guidance and assistance to help ensure compliance with safety and etiquette standards.
“Our teams are on the ground every day, and their presence helps turn these guidelines into everyday practice,” Al Mutawa noted.
A shared responsibility
RTA said the campaign supports Dubai’s vision for smart and sustainable mobility, emphasising that public transport safety is a shared responsibility.
“This initiative goes beyond reminders,” Al Mutawa said. “It strengthens a culture of respect and awareness, ensuring every journey on Dubai’s public transport network is safe, smooth and comfortable.”
