Dubai Municipality Announces Three-Year Plan for Updated Sewerage Tariffs
Dubai Municipality has announced a phased rollout of revised sewerage tariffs, marking the first increase in a decade. The new fee structure, part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to enhance service quality and sustainability, will be implemented gradually over the next three years for current sewerage fee-paying customers in areas managed by Dubai Municipality. This adjustment aligns with Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to address the needs of a rapidly growing population.

With Dubai’s population projected to reach 7.8 million by 2040, the emirate is prioritizing infrastructure development to accommodate its expanding resident and visitor base. The city’s robust economic growth and population increase have created a demand for continuous improvements across all service sectors, including wastewater management. The new tariff structure is intended to support these infrastructure upgrades while promoting sustainable practices.

The revised tariffs will be introduced in stages starting in early 2025, with a rate of 1.5 fils per gallon. The rate will increase to 2 fils per gallon in 2026 and will reach 2.8 fils per gallon by 2027. Despite the adjustments, the revised rates remain below the global average for sewerage fees in cities with similar economic profiles.

This fee revision is designed to encourage water conservation and support sustainable urban development in Dubai. By adjusting sewerage tariffs, Dubai Municipality aims to contribute to the emirate’s water preservation efforts and ensure a future-ready infrastructure that meets the needs of both residents and visitors. Through these changes, Dubai continues to solidify its reputation as a global hub and one of the most desirable places to live, work, and visit.
